The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after eight cockerels were rescued at the side of a remote road in in Howwood after being abandoned.
The SPCA were on Friday morning (29th August 2014) when a member of the public discovered the birds next to the B786 in Howwood.
The cockerels are now being looked after in SPCA centres in Hamilton and Dumbarton.
Animal Rescue Officer Amy Robb said, “The cockerels were huddled together very close to the road and it’s lucky they weren’t hit by a car.
“I asked around farms in the area and no-one recognised the birds or knew who they belonged to.
“Other than being frightened, all the cockerels are in good condition and seem much happier now that they’re in our care.
“We’ll look after the birds until we can find them all permanent new homes.”
Anyone with information is being urged to contact the SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
