Elderslie Community Council has placed a black bench near the Bore Well to honour the much-loved historian Derek Parker.

Derek Parker passed away in May, aged 71 but since he died, various friends, communities and colleagues across Renfrewshire have been quick to pay tribute to him.

Alice Robb, chair of Elderslie community council, said: “I knew Derek for more than 60 years.

“He was a gentleman in the true sense of the word, and he was a man of integrity and principle.”

Renfrewshire Council is set to name a new lane after Derek in Johnstone next to the new Town Hall. The lane will be called ‘Parker’s Way’.
