Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley & Renfrewshire North has expressed his disappointment with the new Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and his party’s decision to continue their support for the renewal of Trident.
He said “I am disappointed to learn that the Labour Party have quietly voted to continue their support for the renewal of Trident without any debate taking place on the issue at their national conference.
“Labour delegates yesterday approved the party’s ‘Britain in the World’ policy document, which makes clear the party’s “commitment to a minimum, credible, independent nuclear capability, delivered through a continuous at-sea deterrent.
“I had hoped that the election of Jeremy Corbyn would have led to the Labour Party joining the SNP in opposing the plans to renew these out-dated weapons.
“Again, we’re all left disappointed by Labour!”
