Two thieves hid in a restaurant toilet in an attempt to break into its safe during the night.

The pair hid in toilet of TGI Fridays in Braehead before it closed on Sunday evening and stayed there before they used a power tool to try and drill through a safe located on the premises.

They were caught on CCTV at around 1.45am after they set off a fire alarm and fled the scene empty handed.

Inspector Stevie Espie, of Johnstone Community Police, said: “Two males were spotted on CCTV shortly after the incident.

“The men are believed to have concealed themselves in the toilet of the TGIs restaurant while it was being secured.

“They then attempted to access a safe using power tools but were unsuccessful and a fire alarm was activated.

“We would appeal for anyone with information to get in touch by calling 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
