Police Scotland is appealing for information following an attempted robbery at a shop in Johnstone.Around 10am this morning (15/11/15) a man entered Graham Street Newsagent in Graham Street and threatened the 61 year old shopkeeper with a knife, demanding money.

The shopkeeper challenged the man who then fled the premises empty handed in an unknown direction in Kilbarchan Road.

The man is described as 5ft 4, and wearing dark clothing with his face covered. It’s believed he was wearing a mask that was described as ‘Batman’.

Detective Constable Eric Hepburn said: “Thankfully the shopkeeper wasn’t hurt but it was nonetheless a very distressing experience for him.

“Incidents such as this are rare in the area and there will be extra officers on patrol to provide reassurance to the local community.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and saw anything suspicious to contact police on 101.

“Alternatively you can call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where all callers will remain anonymous.”
