It is believed that St Mirren Football Club are ready to sign a deal that will rename their home ground to ‘Paisley Stadium’.

The team would rename St Mirren Park in a deal with Renfrewshire Council to help secure ‘UK City of Culture’ title in 2021.

St Mirren would also gain £66,000 for the two-year sponsorship deal and it’s thought the deal may be extended if Paisley won the title in 2021.

Paisley UK City of Culture 2021 advertising will also feature inside the stadium and on the club’s websites.

St Mirren chief executive Brian Caldwell told local newspaper the Paisley Daily Express: “These proposals would see our stadium playing a key part of the City of Culture campaign and I am certain that our fans will get right behind it.”
