Renfrewshire Council has welcomed a commitment by the Scottish Government of £46million to promote affordable housing in Renfrewshire.

The money will be distributed by Renfrewshire Council to support investment in affordable housing the next three financial years by the council itself and local housing associations.

The funding will help deliver Renfrewshire’s existing Strategic Housing Investment Plan.

That plan coordinates key housing goals across a range of partner housing organisations up to 2021-22.

Councillor Marie McGurk, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Communities, Housing and Planning Policy Board, said: “Renfrewshire Council is committed to boosting affordable housing for the benefit of people and communities across Renfrewshire.

“The council is already well underway with a local housing strategy which will ultimately deliver over 1000 affordable properties through a combination of new council housing as well as projects being taken forward by housing associations.

“It is important we get the right mix of housing. We know that providing more affordable housing brings a wide range of social and economic benefits.

“Renfrewshire Council is committed to that goal and this additional funding will play an important role in delivering that.”
