During pre-maintenance inspections, it has been identified that more intensive structural works are required to ensure the bridge maintains its essential ability to open or close for river traffic.

Rather than close for one week, and follow up with further closures over the coming months, it is considered that the best way forward is to carry out all the required works at one time.

The planned maintenance works due to take place on Barnsford Road in the week prior to the bridge closure will now take place at a later date to minimise disruption in the area as far as possible.
