With 4,661 spectators, thanks to 1,900 Saint fans, a hopeful Saints side left three points for Morton.  This was a major derby disappointment for the Saints.

Sutton had his first chance in the first minute when he rose above the Morton defenders to meet Irvine’s superb cross.  Gaston held on to the ball.  Another great chance came for Sutton in the sixth minute on Lewis Morgan’s cross, but headed it wide.  John Sutton had another effort in the 13th minute, which trickled just wide, on a pass from Gavin Reilly.

Morton’s Ross Forbes shot over the bar for the home side in the 14th minute.  In the 15th Morton won a free kick 20 yard out after MacKenzie committed a foul.  Ross Forbes just sent the free kick by the post.  This was another good chance for Morton.

In the 23rd minute Sutton had another huge chance as he heads over the target.  The wheels slowly started coming off when Morton’s Quitongo fell with Baird in close proximity.  Samson and Quitongo are booked in the 25th.

Morton’s Tidser did not waste the penalty and sinks the ball into the net from the spot.  1-0 Morton after 26 minutes.  Cammie Smith got the equalizer in the 40th minute when he rifled the ball into the net from outside the box 1-1.  This left the match square at the break.

Four minutes into the second half, Jack Baird brought down Morton’s McHugh and receives a red card for his effort.  Morton got its second penalty and Tidser made it 2-1 from the spot.  Gregor Buchanan is brought into the game to replace John Sutton in the 50th minute.  In the 64th minute the second change is made and Ross Stewart replaces Gavin Reilly.

In the 72nd minute, the situation goes from bad to worse, when Quitongo’s pass is picked up by McHugh to fire it home.  3-1 for Morton.  In the 75th Morton does a double sub with Gary Hawkins and Conor McManus taking the place of Jai Quitongo and Michael Doyle.  Five minutes later Andy Murdoch upped the result to 4-1, which was the final result.  Gary Oliver in place of Ross Forbes was the final substitution for the Saints.

While the half saw relatively good play from the Saints, penalties eventually was their demise.  The Saints were no match for Morton with just ten players.   There is plenty to discuss before the next match.
