A popular member of staff at Corseford School in Johnstone has been honoured by pupils marking her 25 years of dedicated service.

Speech and language therapist Mary Duffy, 59 was presented with flowers by appreciative pupils as she marked a quarter of a century in post.

Mary also celebrated her 35th anniversary with parent charity Capability Scotland in 2016, having spent her early career as a therapist at Stanmore House School in Lanark and in a mobile therapy unit for children and adults.

She said: “Following personal experience of relatives using speech and language therapy, from a young age, I was drawn to the study of alternative and augmentative communication and helping people with complex needs express themselves.

“There is nothing more satisfying than seeing our young people find their voices and this has been a source of great joy for me here in Corseford School.

“No two days are the same and we offer a tailored service to our pupils which is second to none. While I can’t quite believe 25 years have passed, this has undoubtedly been one of the great privileges of my life.

“I have been completely overwhelmed by the appreciation shown by my colleagues and our wonderful pupils on the occasion of my anniversary.”

Sean Donachie, Interim Head of Care and Education at Corseford School, said: “The pupils and staff at Corseford School have been lucky to have enjoyed Mary’s expertise and her friendship for a quarter of a century now. Mary works tirelessly alongside our education and care staff to meet the communication needs of our young people, and we don’t know what we’d do without her. Everyone here at the school has great affection for her, which was evident at our presentation on her 25th anniversary.”

Corseford School supports children and young people aged five to 18 with complex health, education, movement and communication needs to achieve their potential.
