A man has lost a leg following a serious road crash in Bishopton on Tuesday.

A 64-year-old motorcyclist from Linwood was travelling north on the B815, Ferry Road at around 4.25pm when his Harley Davidson motorcycle was involved in a collision with a yellow JCB Telehandler at the junction at North Porton Road in Bishopton.

Emergency services attended and medics battled to try and save the biker’s leg with emergency surgery at the roadside but were unable to save the leg. He was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where medical staff describe his condition as serious.

The driver of the JCB was uninjured and Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The road was closed for around seven hours whilst the investigation team carried out enquiries.

Sergeant Kenneth Malaney from the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Greenock said: “I would appeal to anyone who was travelling on or near to the B815, Ferry Road, prior to the collision who observed either the JCB Telehandler or a Harley Davidson motorcycle to please get in touch.

“I would also ask any motorists with dashcams who may have captured footage of the incident to come forward and assist with our investigation.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Greenock via 101, quoting incident number 2604 of Tuesday 20 March 2018.”
