Scotmid Co-operative has donated three specially-adapted VW Caddy vehicles to Scottish charity Erskine, allowing it to help British Armed Forces veterans enjoy a broad range of outings and activities.

The specially-adapted, wheel-chair friendly VW Caddy vehicles will be used across the Central Belt at Erskine’s four care homes in Bishopton, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Sara Bannerman, Head of External Relations at Erskine, said: “On behalf of all our veterans cared for here at Erskine, we are so grateful and delighted to receive such amazing support from Scotmid, for the purchase of three specially adapted VW Caddy vehicles.

“At Erskine we have a broad range of outings and activities enabling our veterans to enjoy as rich and full a life as possible. These new vehicles will be fully wheelchair accessible and will feature bespoke adaptions, specifically designed with the needs of our veterans in mind.

“The need for the appropriate transport is really important as our residents are often living with complex health issues and require a high level of support. Thanks to this tremendous support from Scotmid, we are thrilled with our new Caddys.”

As Scotland’s foremost provider of care for veterans and their spouses, Erskine provides unrivalled nursing, residential, respite and dementia care across Scotland. Erskine’s person-centred care is tailored to the needs of each individual veteran. The charity also employs veterans, and promotes wider employment opportunities, and offers housing to veterans and their families in the 44 cottages within the Erskine estate.

Scotmid Co-operative President, Harry Cairney, said: “Scotmid is delighted to be able to support such an inspiring charity and we hope the introduction of the new specially-adapted VW Caddy vehicles will make a big difference to the lives of the Erskine residents.

“We believe our new partnership with Erskine is a good fit for our Society and we are delighted to support such a worthy charity.”
