Johnstone Castle has been put up for sale – for an amazing £450,000.

The Castle was offloaded by Renfrewshire Council years ago and it’s taken a while for the renovation to be completed.

Photos below show what a great job has been done in transferring it from a derelict building into a large family home.

Johnstone Castle

The new look castle complies with all building control standards and regulations, with features like new double glazed windows and a new fire sprinkler system, a heat recovery ventilation system and there is under floor heating throughout, providing warmth and comfort for the 21st century.

The castle boasts it’s own courtyard which leads to a reception hallway with a barrel-vaulted ceiling and sandstone flag flooring. Opening off the hallway are a reception room, a dining kitchen, a utility room/laundry room and a cloakroom which houses the electrical switch gear and fire alarms.

The open plan kitchen and dining area has a barrel vaulted ceiling and sandstone flag flooring. The kitchen’s bespoke handmade base mounted units have slate work tops and a good range of built in appliances including dishwasher, large gas stove and double-wide Fridge/Freezer. The utility room/laundry room has slate worktops, a sink unit and has washing machine and separate tumble dryer.

Johnstone Castle Sitting Room

A separate toliet opens off the utility room/laundry room. Adjacent to the kitchen there is a barrel vaulted reception room, used as a snug/TV room, where the original stone staircase leads up to the Great Hall.

A new spiral staircase leads from the hallway to the first floor landing which gives access to the Great Hall which is open plan with the dining room/library. The beamed ceiling in the Great Hall has been reinstated with timber beams from the former Johnstone Mill and the original open fireplace has been restored. There are newly installed double glazed windows providing excellent light. An intriguing original feature is the trap door from the Great Hall to the original staircase from what is now the ground floor snug.

The Great Hall has flagstone flooring and the original walls have been rendered and repointed as well as a bathroom on the floor.

On the second floor, there is a foyer off which there are two double bedrooms and a large family bathroom, as well as a study. A secondary wooden staircase accesses a further bedroom and study and playroom.

The master bedroom on the third floor is accessed by the main staircase and has a well-appointed en suite bathroom.

The cobbled courtyard, entered by an archway with large bespoke wooden doors, provides excellent privacy and shelter for a table and chairs and has built in stores and also a firepit with BBQ area for outdoor eating. The grounds which surround Johnstone Castle extend to one-third of an acre and include off street parking. The open lawns with two trees are fully enclosed by a metal gate.

The property has been listed on Right Move, a property website. Click here for the link if you’ve got a spare £450k.
