The Scottish Care Inspectorate has confirmed that veterans’ charity Erskine, delivers ‘Excellent’ nursing care and support to Scottish veterans residing in The Erskine Home, near Bishopton.

The Care Inspectorate conducted a detailed three day audit against Scottish National Care Standards on two key themes: Planning of Care & Support and also Support to People’s Wellbeing. They deemed that care was assessed, planned and delivered to achieve the highest levels of support to people’s wellbeing.

At the conclusion of their inspection, the lead inspector awarded The Erskine Home the highest possible mark: Grade 6 – Excellent in recognition of the “outstanding and sector-leading,” care delivered to elderly, disabled or frail residents – many of whom are also living with dementia.

The Care Inspectorate were extremely impressed by the compassionate and innovative care being delivered, by professionals who had an in-depth understanding of each resident. They were also pleased by how Erskine uses technology based systems to chart and promote resident health, wellbeing and medicine administration.

Erskine Director of Care Derek Barron said: “I am immensely proud of Caroline, the Home Manager, and The Erskine Home team. This is the culmination of two years of working in our journey of improvement. What was clear from the inspector’s feedback was the person-centred culture that is embedded in our every-day approach and our use of technology to support us in delivering resident-centred care. Thank you to every member of the teams that make up the care provided at Erskine.”

Erskine Chief Executive Ian Cumming said: “I’m a relative newcomer to Erskine, however I have worked with other charities that earned the rare accolade of the highest possible inspection grade. I recognise the same palpable professionalism, care and compassion here at Erskine. Crucially, what makes Erskine different, is that every member of staff and every volunteer throughout the care, fundraising, administration and support departments all believe passionately in their work and the difference they make to veterans’ lives. I am grateful to them and, of course, all our charity donors for their support.”
