Police Scotland are asking members of the public who wish to conduct searches in respect of Allan Burns, missing from Kilbarchan to contact officers first.
Officers are currently conducting searches to try and locate Mr Burns and are asking members of the public, who wish to assist in this search to liaise with them.
Police said this morning that Independent searches can compromise ongoing inquiries or interfere with policing methods used to search for missing people, efficiently and effectively.
If any members of the public wish to assist in the search for Mr Burns, please attend at Barhill Crescent in Kilbarchan at 11am this morning where an officer will provide you with the relevant safety information and a search area.
Allan Burns, 71 was last seen around 3.15 pm on Friday 18th January 2019 on the cycle path at Kilbarchan, heading towards Lochwinnoch. He was reported missing by police by family when he did not return home.
Allan is around 5ft 8, of slim build, has short grey hair, green eyes and is clean shaven. When last seen he was wearing a grey tammy hat, a khaki green waterproof jacket with tartan lining, dark blue jeans, grey walking boots and a maroon and grey striped scarf.
Police Scotland, said: “It is important that any searches are co-ordinated fully and members of the public are not putting themselves in any danger when carrying out a search.”
