Bridge of Weir Gala Day looks set to return in 2020 following the latest meeting of Bridge of Weir Festival Committee.
The committee and members of the community met this week to discuss whether Gala Day 2020 should go ahead, following the cancellation of last year’s Gala Day, which could not take place due to lack of volunteers.
This year, the committee put a call out for residents to attend last night’s meeting and volunteer to help if they wanted a Gala Day to go ahead.
The meeting was well attended with over 20 local residents showing up to offer support and ideas. While it is still early days, attendees agreed unanimously that the Gala Day needs to go ahead next year and initial plans have now started to take place.
Cllr Don, SNP Councillor for Bishopton, Bridge of Weir and Langbank attended the meeting and was very positive about the outcome.
She said: “I was thrilled to see so many people turn out for last night’s meeting. The Gala Day has been a Bridge of Weir tradition for as long as I can remember and it was a great loss to the village not to have one. However, I do understand the extent of planning that goes into holding a Gala Day and the Festival Committee, who have done an excellent job in past years, just didn’t have the volunteers required. Perhaps something like this was needed to inspire people to get involved.”
“Plans are only at the very initial stages but I am really looking forward to seeing how they progress. I am also more than happy to offer any advice or support that is required along the way.”
“I look forward to attending the next meeting of the Festival Committee in November where both this year’s Santa Sleigh and next year’s Gala Day will be up for discussion. If any Bridge of Weir residents missed last night’s meeting and still wish to get involved, I would encourage you to come along or contact the committee directly.”
