A number of restaurants and pubs across Renfrewshire are extending the UK Government’s Eat Out to Help Out (EOTHO) scheme into September.

Many plan to pick up the tab themselves to provide work for their staff and to say thank you to customers for their support when the hospitality trade reopened.

The EOTHO scheme was introduced by the UK Government in August.

The scheme gave people the opportunity to get 50 per cent off food and non-alcoholic drinks, up to a maximum of £10 per person, every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in August.
Businesses then claim back the money they’ve discounted from the government.

It was an attempt to encourage the public to support the struggling restaurant industry as they entered a challenging period as the economy looks to recover from the coronavirus lockdown.

One of the venues who plan to extend the scheme though September is The Lane on Shuttle Street. As well as running the discount Monday to Wednesday as done previoudly, they will be adding an extra day on to the scheme, a Thursday.

A spokesperson for The Lane told Renfrewshire News: “For a month our customers, old, regular and new have been coming out to support us by frequenting The Lane and making use of the government scheme. We want to give them something back, they helped us, so it’s our turn to help them.”

“The scheme has been hugely successful, over the first three weeks, we served food to over 2500 people in nine days.

“We will be running our Eat Out To Help Out offer Monday to Thursday, and it will include a wide range of dishes with 50% off and further dishes at 25% off.

The Manorview Group, who own the The Bowfield Hotel & Country Club in Howwood and The Lynnhurst Hotel in Johnstone also chose to to extend the scheme. Unlike The Lane, the scheme will run Mondays to Wednesdays for the whole of September

David Tracey, Managing Director, Manorview Hotels & Leisure Group, said: “The EOTHO scheme has been a successful initiative. We have welcomed many customers, old and new, into our venues and our team has a renewed sense of purpose.“

The Group also recognised that for some customers it took an extra effort to visit their venues due to the trepidation they felt about dining out after the Covid-19 lockdown. As a result, the Group felt compelled to give something extra to their customers.

David added: “We have noted a nervousness among some people as they venture back outside. This has made us appreciate the efforts our customers have made to support us. As a result, we have decided to extend the EOTHO offer. We want to offer something extra to our customers to thank them and to help them enjoy the benefits of this scheme a little while longer.”
