Cocktails and mocktails inspired by the happy memories of residents at an East Renfrewshire care home have been created by mixologists for a pop-up event.
Residents gathered in the bar of Newton House Care Home in North Greenlaw Way, Newton Mearns, to enjoy their personalised refreshments.
Nostalgic chats between residents and Newton staff uncovered the stories that were used as the inspiration for each cocktail or mocktail.
Grandfather of eight resident Robin Miller, aged 80, has very happy memories of picking oranges in Spain as a young man.
His mocktail Agua de Valencia inspired a great number of stories to tell the Newton mixologist and Robin gave the delicious mocktail a big thumbs up.
Robin said: “When I started studying art, which was in my late teens, early twenties I decided to travel to Europe, and I made a lot of friends.
“I was very much a free spirit and sometimes I would venture to sleep on a beach!
“When I went to Spain and did this, I made some great friends and got to know a lot of people; they took me orange picking up the hills one time and I fell in love with them, they are just wonderful!
“This drink is just perfect, I’m back in the hills in Spain!
“The Homemakers are wonderful. I am the luckiest man on earth to have been recommended Newton House. I love it.”
Robin has lived at Newton since February.
Newton Wellbeing & Lifestyle Coach Marianne Fernandez-Faichney said residents were delighted when they discovered their memories had been distilled into the colourful drinks.
Marianne said: “It’s always lovely to take a walk down memory lane with residents and swap funny stories from the past.
“I sat down with Robin and soon found that he has had some wonderful adventures, creating the mocktails and making a personalised drink just for him was so satisfying for everyone.”
