Staff and residents at Anavo’s Cochrane and Ranfurly Care Homes in Johnstone were treated to a tour of one of the most famous arenas in European Football – The Celtic Football Club in Glasgow.
Activities Coordinators from Cochrane and Ranfurly Care Homes and the residents who joined them enjoyed a guided tour through the history of the club. They imagined the atmosphere of Celtic Park – resplendent in its green colours – when filled with 60,000 spectators for a football match.
Behind-the-scenes areas of the club were also visited – the boardroom, tunnel, dressing room and dugout. Everyone enjoyed learning about Celtic’s long history, seeing the iconic photographs of memorable moments from the past, and reminiscing about their own footballing years.
Activities Coordinator for Ranfurly Care Home, Sharon Kerr said: “The people we care for in our homes get so much joy from visiting various places, as they would if they lived independently in their own homes. They loved sharing the stories of their football experiences, and of playing football when they were younger.
“We all come back energised after a day filled with fun.”
Margaret Rooney, Home Manager at Ranfurly added: “Ranfurly and Cochrane Care Homes provide a range of activities for residents to keep them active, connected to the world around them and to engage them in activities that they wish to take part in.
“Everyone enjoys visiting new places, particularly after a challenging period of the past 18 months.”
Lainey Begley, Cochrane’s Activities Coordinator commented: “Celtic Football Club made a huge impression on the residents. They were delighted to explore, speaking to the tour guide and sharing their own experiences.
“The conversations continued long after they had returned to their home.”
