Police Scotland are appealing for information after a 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in Linwood.

The teenage girl was walking along the cycle path near the A737 overpass at Kintyre Avenue, Linwood, when she was approached by a man who touched her inappropriately.

The assault happened at around 8.30pm on Saturday.

The suspect is described as a male, between 20 and 30-years-old, of heavy build, with dark hair and wearing dark clothing.

It is believed members of the public were in the area at the time, including people fishing at the Black Cart Water.

Detective Inspector Gary Sergeant said: “Although the girl did not require medical treatment, she was left very shaken by what happened.

“Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the surrounding area since this incident.

“We believe the area would have been quite busy with members of the public, including people fishing at the Black Cart Water.

“If you were in the area at the time, please think back and get in touch with us if you have any information which may be able to assist our investigation.”

He added: “I am also appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious, or a man matching this description, to come forward.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting reference number 3488 of Saturday, 23 April, 2022.

“Alternatively, details can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
