Her Majesty the Queen will will become the first monarch to reach 70 years of service in June 2022.

Renfrewshire News have made a list of the events being held to celebrate this millstone in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire.

Renfrewshire’s Beacon Lighting Service
Paisley Abbey, Abbey Close, Paisley PA1 1JG
Thursday 2 June at 9:30pm

Over 2,000 beacons are expected to be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories, and one in each of the capital cities of Commonwealth countries in recognition of The Queen’s long and selfless service.

The beacons will enable local communities, individuals and organisations to pay tribute to her as part of the official Platinum Jubilee Weekend of celebrations from 2 to 5 June.

In Renfrewshire, the service will begin with a piper playing ‘Dui Regnare’, a unique tune composed for the occasion, at 9.35pm. At 9.40pm a bugler will announce the lighting with a specially written bugle call, entitled ‘Majesty’.

The Lord Lieutenant of Renfrewshire will light the beacon at exactly 9.45pm to tie in with beacon lightings in other towns and cities across the UK. As the beacon is lit the Paisley Abbey Choir will sing ‘A Song for the Commonwealth’.

Include Me 2 Club

Include Me 2 Club charity are holding a free community fun day that will take place at the charity’s new base at Cowan Park in Barrhead to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

They will offer lots of fun activities for all ages including face painting, balloon modelling, arts and crafts as well as bouncy castles. An ice-cream van and various food trucks will add to the overall fun atmosphere.

Include Me 2 Club is an award-winning volunteer led Scottish charity working with children, young people and adults with an additional support need.

Linwood Street Party
Linwood Welfare & Recreational Social Club, 11 Napier St, Linwood, Paisley PA3 3AJ
Sunday 5th June at 1pm until 5pm

The long running welfare club in Linwood will be hosting a Jubilee and VE Day celebration party. No tickets are required.

The Queen’s Green Canopy
Nationwide, no set date

Individuals and community groups can get involved in The Queen’s Green Canopy, a unique tree planting initiative.

Everyone from individuals to Scout and Girlguiding groups, villages, cities, counties, schools and corporates will be encouraged to play their part to enhance our environment by planting trees during the official planting season between October to March. Tree planting will commence again in October 2022, through to the end of the Jubilee year.
