A man has died and a woman is in hospital after they were stabbed in a flat in Johnstone.
MacDowall Street has been closed off in both directions and a forensics tent is visible outside the property.
Three officers have been stationed in the street to protect the cordon and residents have reported that they are unable to leave the street with their cars as per instruction from the police.
Officers attended the property at around 1.50am this morning and a 40-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. A 59-year-old woman was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries.
However, medics now describe her condition as stable.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.50am on Wednesday, 1 June, 2022, police responded to an incident in McDowall Street, Johnstone.
“Officers attended and a man, aged 40, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 59-year-old woman was taken to QEUH with serious injuries, however, medical staff describe her condition as stable.
“The death is currently being treated as suspicious.
“Enquiries are at an early stage and officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information regarding it to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0213 of Wednesday, 1 June.
