MacDowall Street murder

A 28-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the death of a man and the serious injury of a woman in Johnstone yesterday.

Officers attended a flat in MacDowall Street, Johnstone at around 1.50am on Sunday morning.

A blue forensic tent covered the body of the victim who was reported to have climbed out of a window and died in the Johnstone street.  A blood splattered window next to the tent was visible for most of the day.

Extra officers arrived in three police buses and along with forensic officers and detectives, dressed in full forensic suits, began to process the crime scene at around 2.15pm yesterday afternoon.

The street remained closed for the full day on Monday. Residents were not able to take their cars out of the street and businesses remained closed.

Three officers were stationed in the street to protect the cordon. One at the High Street end, another at the Graham Street entrance and a third at the forensic tent

In a chilling interview, a neighbour told local newspaper, the Paisley Daily Express that she heard screams coming from a property shouting “you’ve stabbed him, you’ve stabbed me”.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a man in Johnstone and the serious injury of a woman.

“The incident happened around 1.50am on Wednesday, 1 June, 2022, in McDowall Street, Johnstone.

“A man, aged 40, was pronounced dead at the scene and a 59-year-old woman was taken to QEUH with serious injuries.”
