Police Scotland are appealing for information after UWS Robertson Sports Campus was deliberately
set alight on Sunday evening.
The fire service was called to the Campus in Thornly Park at around 7pm where there was ‘large-scale’ blaze in progress and as a result, officers have confirmed the blaze will be treated as wilful fire raising.
The fire has caused the buildings, at UWS Robertson Campus, Caplethill Road, Paisley, to be left in a dangerous state requiring them to be demolished.
Police Scotland said: “Anyone who has information in relation to this incident is asked to contact Paisley CID on 101, quoting incident number 2641 of June 12th.
“You can also contact Crimestoppers to pass on information anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
Recently, Renfrewshire Council rejected plans to build a major housing development on the land. UWS, in partnership with Miller Homes, proposed 179-house development.
However 1,160 people objected to the plans.
