Scores of Paisley & District u3a members are going to a ruby anniversary picnic as 2022 marks 40 years for u3a, a worldwide learning movement run by volunteers.

Ferguslie Cricket Club will play host to this commemorative event on Thursday.

As well as sandwiches, cakes and refreshments served from 12.30pm, guests can also enjoy toe tapping performances by some Caledonian Fiddle Orchestra musicians. A selection of Scottish dance reels and waltzes will accompany the food.

Remarked chair Kathy O’Donnell: ‘We are looking forward to this special occasion. It feels like a grand day out because it includes a musical treat while we eat. “Many of us do relish the opportunity to meet up, to share, and have fun together.

“A local u3a is for everyone who wants to make the most of their spare time when they’re no longer working full time. I enjoy all the activities I go to, and I’ve met some lovely people who are now friends.

“Our website lists all the interesting things we do. No one needs to feel they are on their own. You can take part with others on zoom and in person.

“Paisley & District u3a just celebrated its fourth birthday. It really is a great way to meet new people so come along and join in.”

Paisley & District u3a is Scotland’s 50th self-help learning co-operative for people no longer in full time work. u3as, all run by local volunteers who share their learning, are part of a UK-wide and international educational movement.  Its motto is ‘Learn, laugh, live.’  Scotland has around 10,000 members in 51 u3as who have fun as they enjoy the social side of taking up new activities, and hobbies.
