Natalie Don MSP has congratulated Lauren-Roy Sutherland and all the volunteers at the Renfrewshire Toy Bank for their work since they were formed in 2018.

Initially established as the Renfrewshire Christmas Toy Bank, Lauren took the decision in 2021 to operate the toy bank all year round which in turn provides gifts to children on annual events such as Birthdays and Halloween.

Working in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders across Renfrewshire, Lauren and her team ensure that presents are provided to children from lower income backgrounds. In 2021 the Renfrewshire Toy Bank provided support to around 4000 children, and with the cost of living crisis they are likely facing their busiest year yet.

Natalie Don, SNP MSP for Renfrewshire North and West, said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to go along and meet Lauren to learn more about the Toy Bank’s plans for the future.”

“This cost of living crisis has only worsened the financial difficulties that families face, people are struggling to put food on the table and keep their homes warm. For many families the idea of purchasing toys for their children on annual events such as Christmas and Birthdays is unaffordable.”

“That is why the hard work of Lauren, all those that volunteer and those who donate at the Renfrewshire Toy Bank provide an invaluable service to families across Renfrewshire ensuring that their children can enjoy receiving presents.”

“Now that my constituency office is open to the public, I’m looking forward to utilising the space as a drop-off point for the Renfrewshire Toy Bank and hope that having such a visible drop-off point will help support the selfless work that Lauren and her team do for the community.”

Lauren Roy-Sutherland, Founder of Renfrewshire Toy Bank said: “I was delighted to welcome Natalie along to discuss our operations and our plans for the future, and I’m delighted to hear that the constituency office will soon become a collection point which will be a accessible drop off point.”

“The demand for the work of our charity is only increasing during the cost of living crisis and we are seeing more and more low income working families requiring our support and that is why it is so important that we continue to deliver as many gifts as possible to the families that need it.”

“Everyone involved in the Toy bank are all volunteers and we run this charity alongside our own jobs. Therefore, we are always on the lookout for volunteers to help with our efforts so if anyone feels that they could spare a few hours a week I would urge them to get in touch.”
