A sex attacker who raped a woman on their first date has been jailed for nine years.

Matthew Fielding was today sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow.

The 49-year-old had earlier been convicted on 12 counts of sexual and physical abuse against two women.

Fielding callously taunted the brave victims who testified against him as he was led to the cells to begin his sentence.

He smirked and rubbed under his eyes as if pretending to cry.

The crimes occurred between 2007 and 2021, mainly in Paisley, Renfrewshire.

He raped one of the women after what appeared to be their first date.

His other abusive actions included accusing her of cheating, calling her horrible names and depriving her of food and drink.

Fielding, of Paisley, mocked his victim by filming her on his mobile phone while she was upset.

The other victim suffered a similar ordeal at his hands.

She was violently raped with the thug hitting her with his belt, choking her and smothering her face with a pillow.

Fielding also preyed on her when she was asleep.

Other physical attacks included this woman being bitten, punched and shaken.

Fielding also used to sleep with a sword next to him.

Sentencing, Judge Sheena Fraser told him: “You have been convicted of a catalogue of charges involving rapes, sexual assaults and other abusive behaviour.

“These were committed over a sustained period of 14 years involving appalling, often manipulative behaviour which must have been terrifying.

“This is likely to have caused very significant levels of psychological harm.”

Fielding will be supervised for a further three years on his release.

He was put on the sex offenders list indefinitely. He was also banned for life from approaching or contacting the women.
