Every home in Renfrewshire will have new bin collection days from Monday 7th September 2026.
How often each bin is collected will not change, but most homes will have two different collection days instead of one.
Household information packs will begin arriving from Friday 21st August. These will include a letter explaining the changes and a new collection schedule.
The changes will see collection crews move onto new routes, with the same colour of bin collected across Renfrewshire each day.
Councillor Jacqueline Cameron, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board, said: “We want to provide Renfrewshire residents with the best possible bin collection service, and these changes will further modernise and improve how we do this across 93,000 homes.
“We’ll be collecting bins on different days and residents should look out for their information packs through their letterboxes, giving them everything they need to know.
“And for anyone who gets our help to put their bins out, we’ll continue this service automatically, so they don’t need to do anything.”
For most homes, the blue, green or brown recycling bin will be collected on one day, with the grey general waste bin collected on a different day.
The change follows a pilot involving 10,000 homes since 2025.
Around 1,500 homes in rural and difficult-to-access locations are also being moved onto the standard collection frequency.
Bulk bins at flats will be emptied on different days. The change will be made automatically for people living in these buildings.
Renfrewshire Council’s commercial waste customers are also receiving information setting out their new collection days.
The council said the changes are part of wider improvements to waste and recycling services across Renfrewshire.
Residents can already look up collections online, download collection calendars, add collection dates to their phones and receive email reminders.
Zero Waste Scotland funding has also helped the council provide 80,000 homes with food waste recycling packs and improve recycling at more than 8,000 flats. A further 6,000 homes now receive the council’s full recycling service.
Small electrical items can now be recycled at libraries through a partnership with Material Focus, while larger items can be taken to household waste recycling centres.
New technology in collection vehicles is also providing council customer service teams with real-time information.
Councillor Cameron added: “We’re committed to doing everything we can to drive improvements and support residents to recycle for Renfrewshire.
“These latest measures will mean less bins to put out on each collection day and will help keep pavements clearer. It also means our collection crews are on the most effective routes, reducing our carbon emissions and fuel costs.
“As well as the collection information arriving by post, people can look up their new collections on our website once it switches over on Monday 7 September.”
