Four thousand runners will take part in the sold-out Paisley 10k and Fun Run on Sunday, 16th August, with thousands more expected to line the streets to cheer them on.
The event is organised by OneRen and sponsored by Specsavers Paisley, with runners taking part to achieve personal goals and many raising money for causes close to their hearts.
The 10k will be started by Paisley’s World Cup hero Craig Ferguson, who walked 3,100 miles across the United States in a kilt to raise money for SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) before Scotland took part in the World Cup.
Councillor Lisa-Marie Hughes, Chair of OneRen, said: “The Paisley 10k is one of the highlights of our year and we’re delighted to welcome an amazing 4,000 runners for what promises to be another wonderful event.
“The streets of Paisley will be absolutely buzzing as runners and their supporters soak up the atmosphere – many visiting especially for the event.
“Whether you’re taking part to achieve a personal goal, raising money for charity, or simply coming along to enjoy the atmosphere with friends and family, we hope everyone has a fantastic day.”
As work continues to transform Paisley Museum, spectators can head to ‘Museum Mile’, the stretch outside the building, to cheer on family and friends.
They will also be able to hear facts about some of the objects and collections that will feature when the museum reopens later this year.
The route takes in some of Paisley’s well-known sights, giving supporters several opportunities to find a viewing spot and cheer on the runners.
The Paisley 10k is supported by Renfrewshire Council and Kilbarchan AAC. The Fun Run is open to participants of all ages and abilities.
Kieron Achara MBE, former Scottish professional basketball player and OneRen Board member, will start the Fun Run.
Commonwealth karate champion Amy Connell will present prizes to competitors.
This year’s main sponsor is Specsavers Paisley.
