The UK Prime Minister Theresa May toured a factory in Bridge of Weir yesterday but informed the wrong MP of her visit.
According to the rules, Gavin Newlands, the MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North should have been notified.
Instead, Paisley and Renfrewshire South MP, Mhairi Black was emailed an hour before the visit.
Prime Minister May was accompanied by Scotland Secretary David Mundell.
However, by failing to inform Newlands of the visit to his constituency, Mundell and May were in breach of Commons convention.
Mhairi Black said, via Twitter, that she believes the Prime Minister may not know that Renfrewshire has two constituencies. She said “I received an email from @theresa_may’s office an hour or so before she arrived in Bridge of Weir, and haven’t heard of her actually visiting anywhere in my constituency? Couldn’t possibly be that the Prime Minister didn’t know Renfrewshire has two constituencies?…”
Gavin Newlands also took to social media to point out the blunder, he said in a reply to David Mundell: “David any chance of you, or indeed the Prime Minister herself, notifying me that you are visiting my constituency?”
