Drivers using the A737 link to the M8 at Junction 28A will face overnight closures, two extended weekend closures and a temporary 30mph limit during maintenance work.
Amey is carrying out the work on behalf of Transport Scotland. The programme is scheduled to run from Tuesday, 6th October to Tuesday, 3rd November 2026.
The work involves replacing a joint at the eastern end of St James’ Viaduct. A new joint was installed on the eastbound carriageway during summer 2026.
The main arrangements are:
| Dates in 2026 | What drivers need to know |
|---|---|
| Tuesday, 6th October to Friday, 9th October | Overnight closures between 8pm and 6am. |
| From Friday, 9th October until Monday, 2nd November | A temporary 30mph limit, enforced by average speed cameras on the eastbound carriageway. Temporary bridge plates will be installed on 9th October. |
| Monday, 12th October to Wednesday, 21st October | Further overnight closures between 8pm and 6am. |
| Friday, 23rd October at 8pm to Tuesday, 27th October at 6am | An extended weekend closure. The closure continues through Monday. |
| Second extended weekend closure | Amey says there will be two consecutive extended weekend closures. The second set of dates is obscured by a cookie notice in the supplied document and cannot be confirmed from it. |
| Sunday, 1st November | An overnight closure of the A737 from Linwood to remove the average speed cameras. A separate diversion will apply. |
During the October overnight closures, drivers will leave the A737 at the slip road for St James’ Interchange. They will then join the M8 eastbound at Junction 29.
The diversion on Sunday, 1st November will follow a longer route:
| Order | Diversion route |
|---|---|
| 1 | Linwood Roundabout |
| 2 | Linwood Road |
| 3 | Barskiven Road |
| 4 | Ferguslie Park Avenue |
| 5 | Greenhill Road |
| 6 | A726 |
| 7 | St James’ Interchange |
| 8 | M8 Junction 29 eastbound entry slip road |
Amey says the work is intended to improve road safety. Dates may change if weather conditions are unsuitable.
