Gleniffer Thistle FC has submitted a community asset transfer request for The Marshes pitches on Lochfield Road. The club wants to take on management of the site to improve the playing surface and secure its long-term future.
The request follows positive feedback from the club’s outreach activities.
Gleniffer Thistle has been a frequent user of The Marshes for many years. In an earlier announcement on 21st September, the club said it had delivered regular football activity over the previous 18 months under a licence to occupy from OneRen.
Its plans include improving the pitches and developing modern, usable changing facilities. It also wants to increase opportunities for all ages and abilities, support girls’ and women’s football, and create a safe, well-managed space for community use.
The club said it believes the site could help address a shortage of modern, accessible football facilities across Renfrewshire.
Announcing the submission, Gleniffer Thistle said: “Gleniffer Thistle FC are seeking to take on the management of The Marshes in order to protect and improve the quality of the playing surface and to secure the long-term future of The Marshes as a sustainable, inclusive and community-focused sporting and recreational asset that delivers measurable social, health and community benefit for local people.”
The club said it would continue to engage with those involved throughout the request process and use feedback to guide its future plans.
