An East Renfrewshire care home was given a glowing report by MP Paul Masterton and Jackson Carlaw MSP at an open day last week.
The new home, Newton House in Newton Mearns, will open its doors to the public this spring but the elected officials got a sneak preview along with a group of local people.
The 113-bed home has recently undergone a £600,000 refurbishment since it was acquired by luxury care provider Hamberley Care Homes.
Paul Masterton MP for East Renfrewshire praised the team at Newton House for the work they had done to get the home ready for its upcoming opening.
He said: “It was a real pleasure to drop in and visit Newton House. Helen, Sarah and the team have worked tremendously hard to get the facility up and running and their dedication shows.
“The quality of the facility is incredibly high, and with a cinema, faith room, GP surgery, beauty salon and even hairdressers, I’ve no doubt it will be a popular and successful care home for people across East Renfrewshire and beyond.”
Jackson Carlaw, MSP for Eastwood said the home would be a huge benefit to the community and would create quality jobs for local people.
He said: “I attended the recent open day event at Newton House and I was impressed with the range of facilities on offer including the GP consultation room, multi-faith room and the deluxe cinema.
“It was very productive to meet with management and to hear about their plans to provide the best possible care for patients.”
Guests were able to meet the Homemakers, a replacement for care workers, who are responsible for the wellbeing, care and companionship of residents plus the general tidiness and hygiene of the home.
The revolutionary approach, the first time it is believed to be operated in Scotland, aims to make the care home much more like the normal experience people have living in their own homes.
As well as meeting the Homemakers, visitors enjoyed a free manicure, and had the opportunity to take part in a cake decorating masterclass and a singing workshop.
Home Manager Helen Hendrie said she was delighted with the success of the open day.
She said: “It’s been such a wonderful day and the response from our local politicians and the community has been fantastic.
“We hope this is the first of many community events and we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone back again as soon as we are open.”
Newton House, which is run by luxury care provider, Hamberley Care Homes, is opening soon and is the first home for the group in Scotland.
Newton House will offer residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short breaks for carers in need of a well-deserved break from their caring role.
Amongst many well-appointed features, the home includes a cinema, a café area, a hair and beauty salon (with a nail bar) and has luxurious lounges throughout the home.
