Guest speaker, John Walker will share details about the Cambridge Five Soviet spies at Paisley & District University of the Third Age’s (U3A) next monthly meeting.
His presentation will reveal how these well-educated men betrayed sensitive information to the Soviet Union during World War Two.
U3A chair, Kathleen O’Donnell said: “They say truth is stranger than fiction. We will be finding out how five university students were recruited as spies in real life. If it were a novel it could even be called ‘To Russia with love’ as these men were willing informants.”
John Walker added: “Having left university, these five men took up senior positions within the government, the admiralty, and even the secret service. They were leaders among men who then went on to betray their country by divulging national secrets.”
This free event, open to anyone semi or fully retired, starts at 2pm in the Salvation Army, Mill Street, Paisley on Thursday 2nd May. Tea and coffee is available from 1.45pm at Paisley & District U3A monthly meetings.
