CALA Homes (West) has teamed up with Abbey Nursery in Houston to support Road Safety Week and help keep local children safe.
Nursery pupils were provided with road safety packs from the award-winning housebuilder, which included reflective kit for children to wear to help raise awareness about the need for drivers to look out for children as they travel to and from school.
Running from Monday 18th to Sunday 24th November 2019, Road Safety Week is a national initiative from leading charity Brake that aims to inspire schools, organisations and communities to take action and promote life-saving messages as the nights get darker.
Trudy Johnson, owner of Abbey Nursery, said: “Road safety is a really important topic for teachers, parents and pupils alike and it’s something as a nursery we promote throughout the year to ensure children are equipped with correct road safety knowledge from a young age. We’d like to thank CALA for its contribution to the nursery which will help keep our children safe and encourage positive road safety habits.”
Now in its 18th year, this year’s Road Safety Week theme is “Step up for Safe Streets” which aims to highlight the positive impact design-led travel infrastructure can have on road safety.

The premium homebuilder and Acorn Property Group have submitted a planning application to Renfrewshire Council to create a brand-new residential-led development in Houston. If approved, it will enhance the local area and help address rising demand for homes in the community.
Included in proposals is the development of approx. 57 homes, ranging from contemporary two-bedroom cottage flats to exclusive five-bedroom detached properties. This includes 14 affordable homes in-line with new Renfrewshire Council planning guidelines.

Also included in site plans is the creation of green, open space to complement the surrounding countryside, as well as the removal of high trees – some of which currently block natural daylight to neighbouring housing. A safer routes to school action plan has also been included in proposals.
