Police have made an arrest for the serious sexual assault on the cycle track between Johnstone and Linwood last week.

A 29 year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The victim was walking home towards Linwood on the cycle track from Morrisons in Johnstone when she was confronted by a man at an area of the cycle track known locally as ‘the pencil’ statue.

After waiting for a woman pushing a pram to walk past, he then grabbed her, and dragged her into nearby bushes, where he subjected her to a serious sexual assault around 2:15pm on Thursday.

He then made off in the direction of Johnstone.

Police said today that they would like to thank members of the public for their help and assistance throughout this investigation.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and the suspect is expected to appear from custody at Paisley Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
