A group of elderly Johnstone residents got a surprise visit this week when Renfrewshire Council Leader Mark Macmillan stopped by to help serve Christmas lunch at a local day centre.
Councillor Macmillan visited the Johnstone Day Centre on Walkinshaw Street for one of the centre’s festive party events.
The council-run facility provides day care services for elderly residents to help them continue living independently in their community.
Councillor Macmillan said: “It was a real pleasure to come to the centre and see for myself what a valuable service it provides to elderly people living locally.
“One of our priorities at Renfrewshire Council is to support elderly people to live full, independent lives. Centres like this and the activities that they provide are hugely important in offering regular social interaction and some of the care and support that elderly people need.
“Volunteers are also crucial to the success of these services, and it was wonderful to meet some of the people from the Friends of Johnstone Day Centre Group, who do so much to support its activities.”
