Detectives in Paisley are investigating a fire at Mossvale Nursery School on Fullerton Street in Paisley.
Two fire appliances from Paisley Community Fire Station responded to the incident at 1:55am but due to the severity of the fire additional appliances from Govan and Renfrew were also in attendance at the incident.
In total 25 firefighters tackled the blaze and brought in under control using several main fire-fighting jets and a high reach appliance used as a water tower.
The main seat of the fire was brought under control at approximately 04:30hrs this morning however firefighters remain in attendance cutting away and dampening down hotspots within the building.
Station Manager Fothergill, the incident commander, said: “Our firefighters were faced with a challenging fire within the nursery and their priority was to save as much of the building as possible.
“Through the efforts of the firefighters the fire was successfully contained to one half of the nursery. A total of eight firefighters in breathing apparatus were used to bring the fire under control.
“Firefighters using a thermal image camera were able to check the building for hidden fire travel and effectively extinguish hotspots.”
The fire was extinguished around 5am.
Despite there being substantial smoke and fire damage, no-one was injured and initial enquiries were being carried out to establish if the fire is suspicious.
Detectives have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and those enquiries will continue into the next day and officers are in the process of reviewing available CCTV images in an effort to obtain further information.
Detective Sergeant Gordon McCrae of Paisley Criminal Investigation Department said:“Fortunately, no-one was injured in this incident but it’s imperative we learn the circumstances of the fire.”
