Around 100 Syrian refugees have arrived at Glasgow Airport this afternoon to start a new life in Scotland.
The group are mainly families and are the first of a series of charter flights carrying refugees.
Local authorities across Scotland’s central belt will rehouse them including ours, Renfrewshire Council.
The families who arrived in Glasgow are from refugee camps in Lebanon, Jordan and other countries near Syria and include people suffering from health problems and post traumatic stress disorder.
Mhairi Black MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South said via Faceook “Glad to see so much vocal support,especially online for the refugees arriving today.”

Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North said today “The plane has just landed at Glasgow Airport and I would like to welcome all those on board to Scotland. It might be raining but I’m sure that they will receive a warm welcome from people across Scotland – including here in Renfrewshire.”
The UK government has said 20,000 refugees will be resettled in the UK by 2020 – with 1,000 due to arrive by Christmas.
