With Black Friday fast approaching, one Glasgow store is not discounting but donating to veterans’ charity Erskine.
All Fatface stores have made the decision not to have a sale on Black Friday but instead, in the original spirit of thanksgiving, to donate 10% of sales on this day to charity.
Staff at Fatface, Byers Road, Glasgow chose Erskine as the charity to benefit with the reason being particularly poignant for store manager Kirsten Thomson.
“This year my late Grandfather would have celebrating his 100th birthday, so in his honour we wanted to donate to Erskine where he spent the final year of his life” said Kirsten.
“My Grandfather, Flight Lieutenant J W Thomson of 38 & 221 Squadrons, received such wonderful care at Erskine so it means a lot to be giving something back to the charity.
“In the summer, eight of us from the store, took part in a zip slide across the Clyde and were delighted to raise £720 for Erskine. It is a cause close to my heart and we are honoured to be fundraising on their behalf.”
Kirsten is encouraging shoppers to visit the store on Friday 27th November on what will be a fun day with festive treats, cakes for customers (donated by local patisserie Matilda’s) as well as a wrapping station where gifts will be beautifully wrapped for Christmas.
Kerry Reich, Erskine community fundraiser for the West, said: “We are really touched that Kirsten and her staff have chosen Erskine as the charity to benefit from their ‘Thanks for Giving’ day on Black Friday. The staff from Fatface Byres Road are such wonderful supporters having taken on a group challenge for us earlier this year.
“I will be there on the day helping at the wrapping station, which is just a small way to say thank you for raising money for our veterans.”
