As part of the Festive Safety Campaign 2015, specialist road policing officers will be targeting motorists and vehicles in Renfrewshire in an effort to keep people safe on the roads this December.
As part of the campaign Police aim to remind people that the drink driving limit was lowered last year and that the limit is now 50 milligrams of alcohol in every 100ml of blood.
This has real implications which can risk your licence and livelihood not to mention risking lives.
Officers from the Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Police Divisional Road Policing Group were targeting central areas of Paisley on Tuesday (8/12/15) to ensure that vehicles were roadworthy and that drivers remained under the drink driving limits.
Inspector Gillian Gardner, who leads the Divisional Road Policing Group in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde said: “We will be increasing our engagement and enforcement throughout the festive period across Renfrewshire and Inverclyde to discourage anyone thinking about drinking and driving. The best advice is if you are planning to drink this Christmas, don’t drive.”
“Most drivers do not drive under the influence, but there a minority of drivers who disregard drink drive limits risk their licence, their lives and the lives of other road users. Don’t take the risk, make alternative travel plans to get home safely. If you have been drinking the night before make sure you are fit to drive the next day before getting behind the wheel.”
“At this time of year the driving conditions can be challenging and you just need to look at the flooding we have recently had. Such conditions require all drivers to be aware and adjust their driving accordingly.
“I urge everyone to take the greatest care, ensure that your vehicle is roadworthy, simple precautions like checking your tyres and lights and driving at appropriate speeds for the prevailing conditions will help keep road users safe.”
