Detectives are appealing for information after a fire was started deliberately within a property in Paisley on Monday 18th April 2016.

Around 9.50pm emergency services were called to a report of a fire in a top floor flat in George Street.

Nobody was within the flat at the time and there was no requirement for other residents to be evacuated.

Following a joint investigation with the Scottish Fire Service the fire has been deemed as wilful.

Detective Inspector Sandy Nelson from Paisley CID said: “Luckily nobody was within the property at the time and officers are working to establish any potential motives for this deliberate and dangerous act.

“We have had a report of a man, described as around 5’9” and wearing dark clothing, leaving the building around the time of the fire.

“Officers are looking into this report, however we still need more information to help us find whoever is responsible.

“Anyone who may have information to assist with our investigation is asked to contact officers at Paisley CID on 101. Alternatively you can call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.”
