Three men have attacked a man who was walking down the street in Paisley on Saturday afternoon.
The man was hit by a black Jeep after it mounted the pavement and knocked him over.
Three men emerged from the vehicle on Park Road, in the Glenburn area of the town, at around 4.30pm, and launched an attack on the victim as he lay on the road.
The man managed to escape but the assailants got back into the Jeep, caught up with him further down the street and launched a second assault, this time with weapons.
The victim escaped largely uninjured and suffered only from minor bruising.
Police Scotland said: “These men must be caught. The victim had severe bruising to his body, but surprisingly no broken bones or lacerations.
“His girlfriend was unhurt but left traumatised. Both these attacks have happened in broad daylight on a main road and then on the outskirts of a residential area.
“We know there was a dog walker in the area at the time of the first incident and we would urge them to get in touch with us as soon as possible.
“The man and his girlfriend were only able to give us brief descriptions of the three men, who were aged between 20 and 50.
“He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital on Sunday for treatment to his injuries and released later that day.
“There is no doubt people have seen and heard the attack. We understand witnesses may be reluctant to get involved but they can contact us anonymously.”
