A talk will be held in Paisley tomorrow about Glasgow’s Trongate – the world’s oldest surviving music hall.
Find out more about the unique history of the Britannia Panopticon at Paisley & District U3A’s next meeting on Thursday 4th October.
Guest speaker Judith Bowers will share some stories about famous entertainers who appeared on this music hall stage. One was comic actor Stan Laurel who made his debut there aged 16. Judith will also detail an exciting restoration project for the building.

U3A chair Kathleen O’Donnell said: “People still love to go out and see a show. In its heyday, Glasgow’s popular music hall tradition drew huge audiences.
“Some fans lived nearby but others would travel miles to the city from neighbouring towns like Paisley and surrounding districts just to watch their favourite acts performing live.
“In what promises to it be a fascinating presentation, author Judith Bowers will regale us with behind the scenes tales from the world famous Britannia Panopticon and current plans to restore it. Anyone who is semi or fully retired can attend our meeting and enjoy some light refreshments from 1.45pm before her talk starts.
“Information on our various groups and activities will also be available for those who want to know more about us.”
The event is being held at Paisley’s Salvation Army Hall in Mill Street at 2pm.
