University of the West of Scotland (UWS) has appointed Professor Carl Schaschke as its new Dean of the School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences.
Carl joins UWS from Abertay University in Dundee, where he held the position of Head of the School of Science, Engineering and Technology.
With more than 12 years of experience in academic leadership roles, Carl also previously held the position of Head of Department of Chemical & Process Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, the institution at which he completed his PhD in chemical engineering.
A member of the Enterprise Board and Board of Directors at Dundee Science Centre, Carl is a board member for the Education and Accreditation Forum of the Institution of Chemical Engineers. A chartered engineer and chartered scientist, he is also actively involved in professional accreditation worldwide and acts as an external examiner for both Aberdeen and Manchester universities.
Carl is the author of five books, including the Dictionary of Chemical Engineering and was a recipient of both an Esso Engineering Teaching Fellowship and Media Fellowship, having had several secondments to the Fawley Oil Refinery and BBC TV’s Tomorrow’s World.
In his new role at UWS, he will be responsible for providing experienced academic leadership and direction to the School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences, which has a long history of providing high quality engineering education and now includes a significant range of computing programmes, and will drive forward both the School and the wider University’s strategic aims.
