Two Gallowhill councillors have welcomed the decision of the Communities, Housing and Planning Board to consult on the future of the laundrettes at the flats at Montgomery Avenue and Montgomery Road.

The flats share three separate laundrette blocks which serve 62 residential flats.

Given the mixed tenure profile at Gallowhill, this pilot will help to identify and test solutions which may have wider applicability across Renfrewshire.

Work is now underway by Council officers to review the laundrette service, with a view to developing proposals for each of the laundrette sites across Renfrewshire. The approved report granted authority to consult Council tenants and private owners as part of this work, starting initially at Montgomery Avenue in Gallowhill, Paisley.

SNP Cllr Jim Paterson, Renfrew South and Gallowhill, said: “I am pleased to see these proposals moving forward, since being elected I have raised concerns over the condition of the laundrettes and welcome that a consultation that will draw out the issues residents have before putting a solution which suits them in place.”

Cathy McEwan, councillor for the same area, said: “I am sure the residents of Montgomery Road and Avenue will welcome the opportunity to consult on the future of the laundrettes and make their preference known whether it be retention, refurbishment or the introduction of an alternative service.”

The Communities, Housing and Planning Board sat on Tuesday 12th March 2019.
