Congratulations to Veteran Tom Henderson from Ayrshire who took on the epic challenge of climbing Africa’s highest mountain to raise money for charity Erskine, based in Bishopton.

 Tom, aged 61, a retired Major with the Royal Engineer’s successfully climbed to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro 5,895 metres above sea level, a round trip of 70km.
 
Tom told Renfrewshire News: “We climbed for seven days staying at tented camps along the route reaching Base Camp on day five. We departed for the summit at 23.30pm on the 14th June completing the 7km trek and 1,295 meter climb at 7.15am on the 15th June.
 
“The descent to 3,100 meters covering 23km was the longest day but rewarding with the summit behind us.
 
“It was an incredible experience and I am delighted to have donated £1,622 to Erskine. Thank you to everyone who supported me.”
