CALA Homes (West) and Acorn Property Group have submitted a planning application to Renfrewshire Council to create a brand-new residential-led development in Houston.

The site, located south east of Woodend House on Houston Road, has been recently allocated in the Renfrewshire Proposed Local Development Plan, which means that it has been identified as suitable for new homes.

CALA Homes claims if approved, it will enhance the local area and help address rising demand for homes in the community.

Included in proposals is the development of approx. 57 homes, ranging from contemporary two-bedroom cottage flats to exclusive five-bedroom detached properties. This includes 14 affordable homes in-line with new Renfrewshire Council planning guidelines.

Also included in site plans is the creation of green, open space to complement the surrounding countryside, as well as the removal of high trees – some of which currently block natural daylight to neighbouring housing.

Houston residents were recently encouraged to attend two community engagement events which provided the opportunity for attendees to learn more about the proposed development and share their feedback with the project team. Local schools and the community council have also been contacted about the proposals and have been offered one-to-one consultations with the development team.

Andrew Duncan, Land Director for CALA Homes (West), said: “It has been imperative for the project team to engage with the local community from the outset and we received lots of useful feedback at our events. We recognise Houston as a popular and thriving location, and we have shaped our development to fit in with its surroundings and to meet the demands of people we expect will want to live there.

“We’re committed to delivering a high-quality development that is accessible for a range of home-owners and we’re hopeful that Renfrewshire Council shares our vision and recognises the valuable contribution it would make to the area.”
