A Renfrewshire councillor is encouraging one parent families to apply for funding recently made available by One Parent Families Scotland (OPFS).

OPFS has secured funding from Scottish Children’s Lottery to enable them to provide vital support to single parents across Scotland during the coronavirus crisis and lockdown. The fund can provide a one-off payment of £50 to single parent families in Scotland who need help with their energy bills.

Renfrewshire Council Education and Children’s Services Convener, Councillor Jim Paterson, said “At a time when we are being advised to remain in our homes it is inevitable that for many there will be increased energy bills.

“This fund which has been launched by OPFS and supported by the Scottish Children’s Lottery provides crucial financial support to those most in need and I would encourage them to make an application.”

Applications must be endorsed and submitted by a sponsor, acting in their professional capacity such as social workers, housing officers, health care professionals, teachers, clergy and third sector organisations.

If you do not have a sponsor, OPFS can be contacted on phone 0131 556 3899 or email energygrants@opfs.org.uk with your name, contact number and area you live in. A member of OPFS staff will contact you to check eligibility and assist you further.
