Shopmobility Paisley & District took part in Renfrewshire Council’s Winter Connections programme.

The entertainment last week was provided by David Roy of Paisley Darkside Historical Walking Tours who gave a presentation about Auld Paisley, providing some lesser known facts about Paisley and its buildings.

A number of those who attended the event are promising to come back to next week’s to hear further stories about Paisley and Renfrewshire.

These spaces for the tour are open, free and easy to access, with events and activities about feeling good and having fun.

As well as tea or coffee and cakes, there was a hot lunch provided and those who wanted it were given trials on the group’s mobility scooters, highlighting how simple they are to use.

Shopmobility’s Winter Connections will run on Wednesdays, 1st March and 8th March 2023 from 12noon to 3pm. It is advisable to book in advance as places are limited.

Karen Miller, Office Manager of Shopmobility Paisley & District. said: “It was great to have so many people attend our first Winter Connections session at our base in Paisley Centre Car Park, Storie Street, Paisley.

“It was great to see a good turnout for our first event and everyone enjoyed the talk on Auld Paisley given by David Roy of Paisley Darkside Historical Walking Tours, with a number of attendees saying they would be back next week.

“There is an important point in these events, to help provide support for those struggling to get by during this cost of living crisis. We’ve tried to do things a bit differently, having experienced tour guides providing entertaining presentations – with the option of going on a short walking tour as well as signposting anyone to the relevant support available from places like Advice Works and CAB.”

David Roy from Paisley Darkside Historical Walking Tours said: “I am delighted that the first event went so well, with Shopmobility organising the event, the food and brining me along to provide entertaining talks on Paisley’s history. There is always something new you can find out about our town’s history and its brilliant that a good number of attendees said they would be back for next week’s event.”

Shopmobility Paisley & District is based on the ground floor of the Paisley Centre Car Park in Storie Street, Paisley and is open between 10am to 4pm on Mondays to Fridays and 10am to 3pm on Saturdays (closed on Sundays).
